The Google map team has finally added Street View to the Raleigh area!
Check out the Raleigh skyline here from Google Street View
Another view here from Boylan.
The pictures look like they might be from September or October of 2007. Enjoy the street view of Raleigh, NC for those out of town!

Thank you, Matt, for implementing Google street view. Without your hard work, we wouldn’t have these great pictures to look at on Google Maps.

The Edison: I noticed the parking deck is growing right aganist the sidewalk facing city market, ARE THEY KIDDING! Correct me if I am wrong. If your walking that side of the street, your staring at an 8 stroy parking deck wall? Will there be retail on the street level (if not, ugly)? Can you imagine the ugly view you will have from the city market side (looking at an 8 story gray wall). This will not be an entertainment destination, just a few buildings around a gray elephant parking deck. Wow, this was not given much thought, just throwing something together.

I hope my boss doesn’t notice that my car is at home during what seems to be mid-day.

TC,
There will be retail along both Blount Str and Wilmington Str. Pedestrians won’t have to see a parking deck as they walk by, except for the entrances/exits. This is more evident on the Wilmington Str side, where you can see a setback. Unless of course something changed since the last time I saw the renderings

Ernest, thanks for the feedback. When will the renderings be released?
That parking deck should have been underground and a REAL plaza put in it’s place (they are naming too many locations “Plaza” downtown, without an “Actual” plaza).
Hopefully that parking deck will be thoroughly concealed from all views and elevations (will an office tenant or hotel customer be looking down on that ugly gray beast?). If so, it will be just like my Sheraton experience, my room overlooked that ugly prison.

The renderings are available, already, at the Urban Design Center. I have not put them in my website yet, but if you want me I can send them to you - click on my name, enter the website and then click on Contact Us. I will reply as soon as I can.
Your observation on the parking deck is correct. Ideally, it should have been under the ground, but the costs would be astronomical
On a positive note, I have read that they will conceal the top floor from the planned towers (Edison), or at least they will make the top floor of the deck more attractive. I have not seen exactly what they have in mind to do, but I am sure it will turn out to be something better than the usual.
That ugly County Jail building is more than an eyesore
I just wish they could rebuild it as a much more attractive structure and use the existing location for something far better - assuming a private developer could enter a special deal with the county government… No hope, though

Yeah they pretty much covered everything around here. I wonder if they’ll update and maintain the feature as the city grows.
But if someone is planning on living anywhere I would hope that they would see it with their own eyes and experience what it’s like to be there for at least a few days.

Looking at a few landmarks with events (RBC Center), looks like this was taken around October 9-10th, 2007
