Speaking of the N&O block - what's the situation with the N&O move to a new building? Last I had heard was that it was stalled indefinitely.

So I wonder with that area below the spire, will that enclose that? If not, that'd make a pretty awesome place for an open-air observatory or something like that. You could charge $2 (or free with RBC Bank account) to go up there. It would be pretty awesome to be able to look up through the bottom of the spire.

I work for the Fire dept., and I was leaked details that they, the Police, and other departments will be getting a new hi-rise headquarters...at least 15 stories, maybe even above 20. We all have to keep an eye on that.

And RBC Plaza looks absolutely huge from this angle.

Great shot, Matt R.!!! When comparing RBC Plaza to the surrounding buildings from a distance, it looks a little overwhelming (in a good way, of course). However, from the street level it is perfect!!! In a way, I am happy to see the crane go because now the skyline will look more natural. As for improvements on the gap between the two "bookend" towers, I bet a lot on a future redevelopment of the N&O block. That would probably be the next MAJOR redevelopment effort - since The Edison has been announced already.

My eyes are on the CapTrust Tower at North Hills... they have the steel rods for the columns in place already. It will start going up within the next few months and top out at 17 stories ~ 275 ft. I hope both this tower and Soleil spur more mid to high rise development in their respective areas. Not to bring attention away from downtown, but it doesn't look like anything significant will be going up within the beltline for at least another year.

I'll be keeping my eyes on the Soleil tower, but if/when Edison starts going up, it will absorb my attention completely.

They should have proposed the Edison somewhere between Wach. and RBC, that would look amazing from an east/west angle.

I think many people realize there's a gap between Wachovia and the other taller buildings DT. Unfortunately, I haven't heard mention of any buildings proposed to fill that space in. Even a couple of 10 or 15 story midrises would do nicely. We're just going to have to live with the "toothless gap" look for a while, at least from the east/westward angles.

The angle from Broughton HS remains my favorite "underrated" view, though. :)

I guess downtown can catch it's breath for a bit before the Edison construction begins. Or do all eyes turn outward to watch Soleil go up now?

Absolutely amazing! The perspective and contrast to the surrounding buildings is incredible. I've never seen such a clear comparison. I'm glad the crane is coming down and everyone can start recognizing the building as a legitimate part of the city instead of just a work in progress. Also, it's cool to see the side of the tower is finished, as the webcam view doesn't show that side. Thanks, Matt!
