You are correct about the new City Hall, although it is a long-term goal. Some renderings were released that included the entire municipal complex. Feel free to send me an email and I will send you some renderings. Don’t expect anything in the next 5-6 years, though.

Those pictures are amazing, &nd I think people should comment on whaat the pictures look like not having a conversation, that’s why they invented E-Mail, phones, texting, ect.

I don’t think Raleigh is supposed to get a new city hall, but rather a new courthouse, or “Justice Center”. It’s not supposed to start until 2011, but the demolition of the Garland H. Jones and Wayne F. Atkins (I think) buildings, along with that old parking deck, is supposed to continue as planned.

Oooh oo ooooh! Ive got something! Ive noticed they are ripping apart the Garland Jones/Wake County parking deck. Any word on when the new City Hall will go up? Im crossing my fingers, hoping that they will choose to blow them up, not that I didnt like the buildings, but just for something to see.

There was an article in the N&O this morning about how Powerhouse plaza is temporarily on hold due to financing issues. They hope to get going on demo and consolidationg the site, but can;t move on the construction yet.

it’s not a hyatt, it’s a Hyatt Place. Kind of like Courtyard by Marriott is not a Marriott. They are small limited service hotels; there is one off Capital Blvd at the Beltline that used to be something else.

It’s better than nothing, don’t get me wrong, but it’s not a full service Hyatt. Maybe someday!

Alright, thanks Roguejam. I mean, the 12z GFS/ECMWF are dry for that time period, and InAccuWeather.com has scattered the event over the course of a week and changed it to mostly snow. I should’ve thought of what you said earlier; In our crippling 20+ inch snowstorm in 2000 was NOT forecasted by ANY models (the NWS highlights the ETA as a major failure in the forecast of this system) even 48 hours out. I guess I just REALLY wish we would get a large amount of snow (5″+) that sticks. I haven’t seen that since I left public school.

I WANT SOME SNOW!!!!!!!

“Another thing, I’ve been looking at weather forecasts and listening to meteorologists, and all indications are that Arctic air from northern Canada will surge down here on Tuesday night, and there are indications that a major ice storm will cripple all of the south, starting on the Friday before Inauguration Day, and ending on that Sunday night. This forecast has not yet been verified, but we’ll know within 4 days. Should this stay in the forecast for another two or three days, you’re probably going to want to start stocking up on food.”

Ari, I wouldn’t put too much into the precip threat this far out. True, we’ve (I’m a meteorologist) gotten better about forecasting temperature TRENDS (upper air dynamics have a large influence for systems at the surface, and follow MUCH easier patterns/physics) in the long-term, it’s still subject to lots of error that far out. And precipitation, I wouldn’t bet on until it is under a week away. Definitely looks like it’s going to get much colder by end of next week.

I believe the Edison Towers will break ground either late this year or early next year. The projected opening date for Charter Square is sometime in 2011 I think. I read somewhere else online that The Edison’s plan calls for four towers rising out of a nine-story shared base. I think that they will have to build the entire base along with the two smaller towers. I also read that the developer “has reserved the right to convert 325 condos into 325 hotel rooms.” I think that we could certainly use a downtown Hilton or Hyatt. Or Holiday Inn. Anything, really. Maybe we could get an Omni Hotel. THAT would be nice.

When will the Edison Towers break ground? Looking at the renderings, it appears that there may be a small version of a mall/retail on the ground level. Hopefully a hotel will occupy space in one of the towers. What is the projected opening date for Charter Square?

I had a full rainbow out here in Clayton, over my house, with just a hint of double. Luckily, I got three shots of it right before it faded.

Those darn winds almost destroyed my brand new $12.00 totes umbrella!!!!

Awesome shots. Everyone rushed to the windows at work and then outside. Where I was in RTP, there were two full ones and a faded third. I’ve never seen dual…much less a third. And that black cloud as the sun was setting was tremendous.

I’m glad that you got a picture of this. I saw this as a full rainbow from N Raleigh with just a hint of a double. However, what impressed me the most was the beautiful storm lighting and you captured that well.
