The North Carolina Skyline

November 10th, 2013

I’ve worked on this for a week incorporating over 10 years of my photographs around the state. The original file is over 38,000 pixels wide, 150 layers and 6 gigabytes. Introducing this at $29.99 for a 5″x15″ print.

A night time version can be seen here.

I’ll call this version 1.0. Let me know if you’d like to see anything else included for future revisions.

A zoomable version:

Wow, I love it! Really nice. Have been wanting something like this with just the geography (mountains flattening to the coast) – very cool that you included the skylines too! Showed my friend and she thought it would be cool printed big to hang over a couch or something, are you going to be selling large versions too?
The only thing I don’t love is the look-out binoculars thingy (I really don’t know the name for this!) between the train and the NC sign under Asheboro. Or maybe I’m missing the significance of it?

The viewfinder pairs with the giraffe, both something seen at the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro. (It also obfuscates the transition of the railroad tracks to the mountainside.)

I’m working on making larger versions available. My fulfillment company doesn’t offer larger panoramas for some reason!

Soon we we will have Skyhouse, L, charter square, the Lincoln apartments, at least 2 hotels, Carolina ale house, and possibly a few other apartments underway. 227 Fayetteville is well underway on interior renovations.

Very cool, and I know many of us are appreciative of all the hard work! Possible candidates for inclusion?: 1) The Biltmore Estate, 2) Dean Dome, 3) Old Well or Bell Tower (UNC)…..(I’m no UNC fan, however….). 🙂

Don’t forget Dowdy Ficklen Stadium! Icon of the East.

Also, I get the point of the Skyline. I think it looks great. My only concern is that the east may be a tad under represented. As a geographer I must say it’s an extremely vital part of our state. maybe a really tall grain silo or something might fit in with the theme?

I think it looks great, but would have been awesome if Tryon Palace and DF Stadium would have been squeezed in somewhere.

I think Matt was concentrating on the tall buildings, which is what I like.

John, you have a good point. It’s just the East takes up so much of the state but is a bit under represented aside from Wilmington. If DFS and Tryon were just squeezed in like Carter Finley and the courthouse it would’ve represented Eastern NC a bit more. Other than that it’s a great print. I would buy one.

Charlotte has the best skyline. Raleigh and Winston Salem are next. Greensboro and Durham are good also.

Charter Square has surveyors out on-site today. Work is supposedly going to begin early/mid December. Was delayed a couple weeks.
Soon Charter Square, the L, the Lincoln, Skyhouse, Carolina Ale House, and apparently 3-5 large additional apartment buildings will be coming out of the ground around downtown. Rumors are at least 2 hotels are about to be announced, possibly a third in the next few weeks. 227 Fayettville will be stripping the exterior soon.

Is the PPD building in downtown Wilmington shown here? It’s the tallest in Wilmington.
