Timeplase: Hurricane Irene approaching Raleigh at Sunset

Saturday, August 27th, 2011

As Hurricane Irene neared the North Carolina coast, the outer fringes of the massive storm began brushing the Raleigh area, generating rapid cloud motion from the northeast. I decided to try a time lapse to capture this (about 50 minute duration)- but didn’t anticipate the setting sun making an appearance.

Virginia Earthquake felt in Raleigh, NC – August 23, 2011

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011

I didn’t personally feel today’s earthquake, but I checked my home security cameras to find one of them captured the shaking, along with my dog Beau and cat Grayson reacting to the tremors. Beau could be seen barking 4 minutes before the shaking occurred.

P.S. The time stamp is 11 minutes fast. P.S.S. The infrared camera makes the couch look blue.
