Excellent updates!!! Nice to finally see the crane removed from the core skyline – since the new Justice Center has topped out. Great to see the exterior of NC SECU Building coming along because I honestly feel it will look really nice. The thing that makes me sad is looking at the aerial images, specifically where The Edison will go. I still find it hard to digest how pathetic Gregg’s new version is 🙁
Thanks for the new pics, Matt! Love ’em, and can’t wait to see more! BTW, I really like the new Wake County Justice Center, with its neo-Art Deco design elements. It turned out nicer than I had expected. Only complaint is the similarity in color (from a distance) with the adjacent jail, but I suppose that doesn’t matter.

Thanks very much! Â It seems that our government/bank projects are coming along nicely and now residential/hotel projects are coming back. Â I think Raleigh is getting back on track!
Adam, the Chick-fil-a is in the same block with Rite Aid, in Cameron Village. It looks pretty nice in person and I can’t wait until the rest of the block is developed. I spoke with someone from the group that owns Cameron Village and he said that they have plans for another residential project, right where the Rite Aid is. I assume it will be another 2-3 years before they announce it, but so what? It will be another exciting project, I am sure 🙂
I lived in Cameron Village in college and everyday I would walk through and wish they would pull the shops up to the streets with residential/offices above and put parking decks in the center of each block. Â That would make the whole area feel much more urban and more like walking down a village street rather than walking through the middle of a big parking area. Â Plus pulling more shops to the streets would allow more retail and restaurant space.
Nick, I have no evidence of it, but it sounds like this is precisely what the current owners want to do. It will take many years before we see a full-scale redevelopment, but it sounds like they want to focus on the edges of the shopping center, especially along Oberlin Rd. It makes a lot of sense to create a truly urban environment and I hope they will accomplish that without problems, but the NIMBYs are simply too vocal. Believe me, I heard many of them saying stupid things, as if they own the shopping center themselves; they expect the owners to ask the neighborhood about every little thing, including the removal of a few small trees… These people are insane, but I think that the current owners are not willing to negotiate too much with the NIMBYs.
Love that last aerial. Raleigh is colorful, diverse, and has so much potential. Downtown has a certain character to it, unlike some cities whose centers became lifeless office parks.
Matt, your work is inspiring and makes me proud to live in the city I was born in….keep it up. Ive been a longtime fan but have shared your site with so many people who have shared the same amazement.Â
I have moved out of Cary-Raleigh Area 6 months ago to Charlotte and absolutely love it Here but it’s good to see Raleigh MOVING FORWARD! if the job market was better we would of stayed but Charlotte has Financial Jobs for days! You can almost pick your Salary Here! but I will always think Raleigh-Cary is a better looking Area! Â
